Things that I learned this summer.

  1. Sugar and caffeine are highly addictive.
  2. Spray tanning yourself is an art and very hard to do.
  3. Good friends spray tan you naked.
  4. If a guy says he’s visiting in town for one more night and asks if there is anything fun to do he is probably hitting on you.
  5. Doing things alone aren’t so bad – it’s actually kind of nice.
  6. It’s important to wake up before noon and go to bed before 3:30 am.
  7. Talking to strangers is hella fun!
  8. Osheaga is the best weekend of the summer.
  9. How to fake a believable Australian accent…mate!
  10. Seeing people from high school around your hometown sucks.
  11. I dislike 90% of people I went to high school with.
  12. Bouncers aren’t evil if you flirt with them.
  13. Moms know best.
  14. Living by the phrase “treat yo self” leads to many financially irresponsible decisions.
  15. Modge podge is the best craft supply ever.
  16. The only way to get something you want is to step out of your comfort zone.
  17. My body does not have the same metabolism that it did when I was 15.
  18.  What the inside of a male strip club is like.
  19. If you choose to wear a flower crown go big or go home.
  20. And most importantly…most things are not as important/embarrassing/weird/scary as you think they are.

What has been all girls’ dreams since they were in Grade two? I’ll tell you boys because it’s not what you’re thinking. It’s to be in an all-girl band. That dream may have faded out for most of us because of complete lack of talent but for some they have produced great albums.

There’s a difference between lead girls and all-girl bands. There’s something about the power behind them. They sing together in a way that other bands can’t. If you’ve noticed like I have, there is certainly a lack of strong female bands. When I scroll through my library, look through my cd collection, and the five records I own, most of them are fully male bands or, for lack of a better word, “co-ed” bands. Even with a strong female lead, men usually back her. I’m not trying to discredit other bands’ hard work and talent, but I would love to see more indie all-girl bands, especially Canadian, in the next few years.

Here are some that I really love in no particular order:

girl crush: no one is as cool as Katy Goodman

I’m pretty much late to the boat on everything. I’m a few eons behind on the vivian girl’s boat. Vivian girls are my newest musical infatuation, especially Katy Goodman. Goodman is also known as La Sera, her side project, which I absolutely adore.

I had heard of the Vivian Girls a few times and almost bought their cd at a used CD and record store back in 2011. I curse 2011 me for not buying that cd. Vivian girls have that old-timey feel while still being tattooed badasses who your parents would hate you hanging out with in high school.

My hobbies include listening to La Sera, creeping Katy Goodman’s tumblr and twitter, admiring her dope red hair, and blogging about how cool Katy Goodman is. CAN WE BE FRIENDS ALREADY AND GET MATCHING HAIRCUTS PLEASE!?!
